Development of Broad Spectrum and Durable Bacterial Blight Resistant Variety through Pyramiding of Four Resistance Genes in Rice

چکیده
Bacterial blight (BB) disease caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. is a major biotic constraint on obtaining higher grain yields in rice. Marker-assisted backcross breeding (MABB) was performed the pyramiding of Xa4, xa5, xa13 and Xa21 resistance genes popular variety, Ranidhan. A foreground selection BC1F1, BC2F1, BC3F1 progenies detected all target 12, 7 16 using closely linked markers from population size 446, 410, 530, respectively. The BB-positive carrying with maximal similarity to recipient parent backcrossed each generation. total 1784 BC3F2 seeds were obtained best progeny. screening for four resulted eight plants genes. bioassay pyramided lines conferred very high levels predominant isolates bacterial disease. In addition, these similar Ranidhan morpho-quality traits, namely, plant height, filled grains/panicle, panicles/plant, length, breadth, weight, milling, head rice recovery, kernel length after cooking, water uptake, volume expansion ratio, gel consistency, alkali-spreading value, amylose content.

Towards Durable Resistance by Stacking Broad Spectrum Cisgenic Resistance Genes
Introduction The potato (Solanum tuberosum) originated from South America and is now the third largest crop in the world, after rice and wheat. Potato is a cross pollinated and vegetatively propagated crop, with a genome size around 840 MB, which was recently sequenced. Most potato cultivars are autotetraploid, with breeding programs lasting for 12–15 years. Among many biotic and abiotic stress...
متن کاملDetection of bacterial blight resistance genes in basmati rice landraces.
Aromatic basmati rice is vulnerable to bacterial blight disease. Genes conferring resistance to bacterial blight have been identified in coarse rice; however, their incorporation into basmati varieties compromises the prized basmati aroma. We identified bacterial blight resistance genes Xa4, xa5, Xa7, and xa13 in 52 basmati landraces and five basmati cultivars using PCR markers. The Xa7 g...
متن کاملGene pyramiding enhances durable blast disease resistance in rice
Effective control of blast, a devastating fungal disease of rice, would increase and stabilize worldwide food production. Resistance mediated by quantitative trait loci (QTLs), which usually have smaller individual effects than R-genes but confer broad-spectrum or non-race-specific resistance, is a promising alternative to less durable race-specific resistance for crop improvement, yet evidence...
متن کاملCharacterizing rice lesion mimic mutants and identifying a mutant with broad-spectrum resistance to rice blast and bacterial blight.
Many plant mutants develop spontaneous lesions that resemble disease symptoms in the absence of pathogen attack. In several pathosystems, lesion mimic mutations have been shown to be involved in programmed cell death, which in some instances leads to enhanced disease resistance to multiple pathogens. We investigated the relationship between spontaneous cell death and disease resistance in rice ...
